History of Raj Bhavan, Ooty
Formally known as the Government House, the idea of constructing the Raj Bhavan was proposed by the Duke of Buckingham in the year 1877 to escape from the harsh heat of the city when he was governor of Madras.
Later, in 1899, Sir Arthur Havelock thought of improving the overall interior of the mansion and hence, suggested adding a stunning ballroom along with a waiting room. In 1904, the whole premises got electrified. It was only after Independence, when the Government House was renamed Raj Bhavan.

Sprawling over an area of 87 acres of land, the Raj Bhavan features cream-colored architecture surrounded by manicured lawns and beautiful gardens, which are perfect to relax, unwind, and enjoy a short stroll during the day.
As you step inside the main building, you’ll find a large banquet hall along with a ballroom, office rooms, and drawing and reception rooms besides 17 guest rooms, each of which is tastefully designed to offer you more uniqueness than the other.

One can also see the portraits of the Governors and their wives such as Queen Victoria, the Duke of Buckingham, George V, George Marry, Chandos, and others at the wall of this Bhavan. All these portraits add to the beauty of this structure and make it look even more appealing.
